Sharks feel pain, but the process of shark finning is to remove their fins alive and discarded back into the ocean alive. Their fate is to either drown slowly (it can take 2 hours sometimes) or to be eaten alive by other fish. In 2017, we killed 273 million sharks alone.

at the risk of starting a storm. I would not have a problem with shark fin soup if the sharks were "farmed" and were killed before the fins were taken. To me the problem isn't the death of the shark for consumption but the cruelty of their death. Which is nebulous to define... I welcome any opposing opinions plz discus.
I kind of agree with you, if the rest of the shark would be used as well and wouldn't go to waste. And also if there's no over fishing, so yeah, farming - if it's appropriate and not cruel too.
Or while I think about it... Let's just not eat sharks. That's so wild. Kind of an unnecessary luxury.
Shark meat is eaten all the time, it's called flake by the time it gets to the shop. Why the hell would some brain dead git take the time and effort to catch and de-fin a shark and not sell the rest of the meat?
Ivory from elephants. Why sell the rest which is significantly less valuable? It's a cold hearted financial decision. Minimal work and maximum profits for the fin while the rest of the meat is harder to butcher and is less valuable.
I agree with the sentiment but sharks don't have vocal chords so they can't scream. So yes it means they don't exist. It's still a horrible practice and is actually banned by many countries.
