Until you take them back.
Sometimes mom needs to learn a lesson and understand the LEGO bricks are mine until I die, at which point the grandkids, if they exist, can halve them.
Once when I was 5 I had to chose my two favorite books from a series I loved. When I came back home, all the other books had been given away. It's still a very touchy subject 17 years later and my mom is now deeply sorry because she has since then understood my point of view and she "didn't think it would have been such a problem". Well I do understand the necessity (we were about to move out and these were taking too much room) but the taste of betrayal was immeasurably bitter. Just tell your kids beforehand please.
At least yours was given away to someone else who would use them but nooooo no my mom threw them away right in front of me while I was still 8yrs old!!!!! Her reason it's time to start acting like an adult, also her you can't cook because you're not an adult yet. I never forgave her as this was her personality to throw away things she deemed old or useless. Sweet to say I got my revenge now she's bankrupt, lonely, and lost.
My mom did that too. Including a very rare book that only had 400 copies printed. I scoured the internet for years until I found one and immediately purchased it (unfortunately not the exact version, different cover page). I saw my original one too, but it was sold already.
It's still not cool with them tho. All my suicide attempts are basically directly linked to them. Yay.
I mean it's better if you decide to. But if it's just ripped from you and you have little to no say in it then it fucking hurts. It scars your trust in your parents, and it creates resentment because it wasn't discussed with you like an adult. If they discussed it with you and you had a say in what went, sure. But don't treat me like a fucking kid not able to maie decisions or who isn't worthy of consideration. Idk.
