They're all in the right lane, assuming you don't break traffic laws and give cyclists the entire lane they're actually making it so when you pass them in the left lane you have a shorter distance to go.
Why do you care if they crowd or file? In both cases you still have to treat them like a car.

Crowding like that makes them as a whole easier to notice. A single file line like the ants and the cows makes the whole group harder to notice which is partially why the ants and cows do it, the major reason being it's easier to follow the leader if you are in a perfectly straight line.

So you want the cyclists to act in a far less safe way so you can break the law to feel like you are saving time without actually saving any time?
Because while I drive I'm Manhattan. Fuck termites, fuck ants.... fuck anything they can't charge me with!
I jest, I try to avoid anything larger than a rat, but I always can't.
edit: that last can/can't had to be reversed... and it was can't at first, but then I got distracted, changed it, and now here we are... me changing it back and justifying it... while I glance at my hand and ponder time.
It’s a valid point. Assuming the cyclists follow traffic laws.... Can it be annoying to be stuck behind a cyclist? Sure. Generally is it the end of the world even if it is for a mile or two? No. Motorcycle, bicycle- even in states that allow lane splitting the general rule is the cycle can CHOOSE to split lanes with you- but you CANT choose to split lanes with them. Try it if you’re a jerk- but if you come upon the wrong motorcycle- well... I’m not saying I have or have not ever sent any side mirrors as sacrifices to the mirror gods... but plenty of motorcyclists will gladly take your mirror as payment for your transgressions.
And something to think about- in all but the heaviest of traffic you can catch a bicycle on the road if he takes your mirror- unlike a motorcycle. Buuuut..... if the cyclist takes it off the street and cuts through over sidewalk or trail- good luck finding him. Moral of the story- even if you hate 2 wheeled travelers and care not for courtesy or their safety- think they should be outlawed... remember that anything on 2 wheels can likely mess your shit up and get away with it. Play nice at least for your own sake.
