Life isn’t just that. That’s just a part of life. In the past- and all over the world today- people have to spend much of their day, every day- doing things just to survive. Fetching freshwater, hunting, tending, gathering, growing food and then preparing it for daily meals. Chores done without modern tools or conveniences- walking instead of driving or riding trains.... now instead of chopping wood and all these other things just to survive- we punch a clock, work a register, type, etc.
So most people may spend about the same amount of time a day doing the tasks they need to- but we have more to show for it and often don’t have to work as hard at it. You will probably have to work every day for most of your life in order to have a place to sleep and food- but that hasn’t changed much for most people in thousands of years. History is full of people that have lived lives full of art and beauty, joy, love.... we do what we need to survive- but amidst that survival we find life, and we live it. Find the bright spots.
I've been thinking a lot about this lately, specifically the mortgage part. It's so weird that in order to just have a roof over your head, you either have to give up a chunk of your paycheck every month for rent or get a mortgage and be in debt until you're 50. I've been reading up on the tiny house movement as well as off-grid living and I really like that lifestyle. Idk, maybe I'll build a tiny off-grid mobile home in the future.
Well sure, if you don't include any good things in the list it looks bad.
What about going out with friends, honing a craft, starting a family, improving yourself? There's lot's of good shit you could have put in that list.
