Her descent into madness was apparent for awhile there. Basically after Khal Drogo died it began.. and festered... and then she snapped. That's one of the few parts of the last season they kind of got right. It could have used one more episode with about 20 minutes of little side things making her paranoia and anger shine through a bit more, but whatever, the mental snap itself made perfect sense.
I think if we look back on it there are enough hints that could have made it believable, but the last two seasons (I don't give season 7 a pass) were so rushed that it literally felt like Daenerys was going "my nephew won't sleep with me, and I don't like this lady, so I better burn children to death," and then tried to force justify it with the whole "the gods toss a coin everytime a targaryen is born."

Hahahah. This pandemic is driving me crazy already and this post reminded me of the massacre of my favourite show. There is no way I can move on now lol

After I read the books, I realised how so watered down the show was. But the show still had its moments of glory nonetheless
