Parents who force any form of identity on their child should know that's abuse, especially gender as kids need to figure that out on their own and it does impact their development quite a lot.
Identify as whatever you want but don't fucking force that on your kids. Let them figure it out on their own, otherwise you're no better than parents who aren't accepting of queer kids.
I see parents jumping to conclusions about their child's identity nowadays and it just blows my mind. I was sorta boyish as a kid but I'm comfortable in my identity and if my parents decided that me having boyish interests meant that I'm trans, I'd probably be dysphoric as fuck now. Where did freedom go? Why did we loop back around and started associating people's gender with their interests and personality again? Can't there be women with manly interests and men with feminine interests?
I can't fathom what it would take for me to ever actually hit my mom, but if she kept dressing me up like a girl when I was a kid, I'd punch her... I'd punch her repeatedly.
How about you are what you are born as until you're allowed to drink, smoke, have sex, and are required to pay taxes. If you are too young to drink you are too young to take hormones and change your life forever.
While I do believe there should be an age restriction, i don't think it should 21 or older. Or even 18 or older.
Think about it this way: A chemical is causing unjust harm to a maturing body, in both cases. However alcohol is sourced externally, and so you can just avoid it. Hormones? They're produced by your own body, you can't avoid them.
To set the age of transition to the age of drinking is to allow puberty and growth to cause unchallenged and permanent affects to a person before they can even think about doing anything about it.
While there SHOULD be an age limit, so the person is capable of understanding the ramifications of the choice before they chose, by the time you're proposing irreversible damage has already been done and it's a lot harder to fully transition.
Not every natural function in the body is good for us. Evolution doesn't care for mental health because it's a mindless system.
