Yes. But no. Please see my post below for more information. The company didn’t give them the rings- the Association sought out a company to supply a product with this function and selected them. A small start you cannot afford to give away their product to all who ant afford it- and new miniaturized tech tends to be expensive. So most people who could afford this will be wealthy- but that’s true of anything expensive.
But I'll betcha it doesn't actually work. Conflated and overstated capabilities or a prototypical concept that hasn't actually gone to manufacturing yet.
Another likely parallel possibility that it's actually complete nonsense and being manufactured and hyped to cash in on the Covid panic.
Athletes, like actors, are a credulous bunch.
The product has been in production for some time. The media likes to hype things up- checking their website the company doesn’t advertise their product as a detector of the virus- it’s marketed for sleep and wellness tracking- kinda like a fit bit but not quite. From what I gave pieced together- you COULD use the device to monitor changes over time to an established “norm” which COULD be used to give indication of various issues which cause changes to things like heart rate etc. but it is not a miracle device and we don’t live in Star Trek so a ring or any other portable device isn’t going to replace a doctor and medical diag equipment any time soon.
One should read before they speak. Aurora Ring partners with hospitals all over the United States, SF to NYC, to gather data and try to help healthcare providers as well as everyone. Their mission statement is quite literally to improve people’s general wellness. With everyone crying foul about companies making cash grabs through looking like they care- you can maybe see why- when a company spends tons of time and money working with essential front line workers but then people blast them for not working with front line workers... because they couldn’t use google search or be bothered to check their website?
