There's a knock at the door, the Fairy looks up from their table.
"Who might that be? So late at night?"
They rise, quickly sorting their papers into a stack for presentation. They walk through the hall, approaching the door. As they do, there's a cool chill hanging in the air. They pause, hand inches from the handle. 'It's *them*... Dreadful.' There's another knock, three gentle taps, to rise them from their thoughts. With a sigh, they twist the handle on the door.
"Ah! Dear neighbor, what brings you at this hour?" the Fariy forces a smile. 'Besides your putrid form...' they think, keeping it to themselves. The visitor smiled, a crooked grin of sharp teeth and fangs twisted into an amiable smile.
"The prompt response is one of admiration, I held distraught that nary one may up at such a time," the ghastly fool reaches an open hand forwards, "I regret to burden you with such trivial requests, but the landline in my own home has failed to provide and I ask, might I borrow yours?"
The Fairy's eyes sharpen. The phone was in the office, too far to feed out the door. They would have to invite the,, VAMPIRE in. The thought made it hard to keep a passive face. But as a good host, they would have to oblige.
"Of. Of course, do come in. It's just in the office..." the Vampire's smile sharpenes, from a smile to a grin. They set forward almost eagerly, and as their foot touches down a wave rolls through the house. The Fairy's shoulders tense, the magic of the act visible in their eyes. 'Let's just get this over with...'
"It is much appreciated~" speaks the feind- er, Guest. The Fairy leads the guest to the next room. "It's a shame your house is so bright, it could be quite nice if it were darker." The Fairy paused, pointing to the corner.
"The phone is just there on the end table. Call whomever you need."
"Yes, of course."
The Vampire picks up the phone and begins dialing a number. But the Fairy doesn't read it. Not only is it rude to do so, but they're fuming.
Many thoughts cross the Fairy's mind. 'Could be quite nice? COULD BE quite nice? This vermin comes to my home and insults it, while having the audacity to ask things of me?' No, this wouldn't do. The Vampire may have the privilege of being a guest, but the Fairy will have the last laugh. They turn, headed to the kitchen in the next room. The nosy vampire catches sight before they're out.
"You seek to leave me alone in this room?"
"Of course not, I am in just the next one over. I Wouldn't be very polite a host without the offer of a drink."
"A drink, you say?"
The Fairy snaps at themselves internally for their spoken mistake, but brings no attention to it.
"Yes, I shall put the kettle on."
"Oh, I don't-" the Vampire starts, but halts when you raise your eyebrow. Their eyes catch on the Fairy's and narrowing. They correct themselves, voice holding a newfound suddenness, "It's much appreciated."
The vampire turns back the phone with a shadow down their face, as the Fairy slips into the kitchen. They begin searching for the most disgusting tea that they own, as they set the kettle on a flame to boil. There was this very, distasteful type that they received from another neighbor. They accepted it, of course, out of hospitality. It is rude to reject a gift. The Fairy drops a small amount of leaves into a steep and pours the now boiling water through into a tea pot, Ultimately setting the steep into the light water that now fills the pot. They pour it out into two different cups, and bring one in for the guest.
"The tea is ready. This is one of my favourites."
"Thank you."
The Fairy take a sip, silently choking down a gag through experience from gracing some human homes. The vampire hasn't got such experience, and visible disgust is written on their face.
"Is something wrong?" The Fairy smiles, looking at the vampire.
I want a whole story about this, but they end up with the magical equivalent of getting snowed in, and neither can leave, and they eventually fall in love.
