She used her freedom of expression to say and do the things she said and did. Disney used theirs to fire her for it, because it would be a bad business decision to keep her on.
Yeah, I do, she compared being conservative to being Jewish in Nazi Germany, mocked mask mandates, suggested that widespread voter fraud occurred, appeared to disparage LGBT people, and endorsed posts that went against the BLM movement. She is perfectly within her rights to do those things. Just like Disney is perfectly within their rights to fire her for it.
She compared the process of alienating people and teaching people to hate others for their political views to the process used to teach people to hate and attack the jews leading up to Nazi Germany.
.
Which is neither racist/an attack on religious identities, nor is it incorrect. If you want to make it acceptable to destroy a group on a large scale - first you teach people to hate that group of their own accord.
.
Many people that work for Disney say widespread voter fraud occurred when Trump was elected.
.
Anti LGBT... are you talking about "beep/boop/beep?" Because if so Iirc she explained that she doesn't support people being forced to use pronouns, and that the people attempting to do so need to stop bullying others until they get their way. If the response to that is firing her... then, again, her point has been proven.
The BLM movement has been responsible for more widespread racism in the last year than most groups combined. People at Disney have actively supported it and Antifa.
.
Apparently people literally beating people into unconsciousness is acceptable to Disney as long as you claim to be doing it to support Black people I guess
.
I won't touch on the mask thing because people on this website can't cope with anyone saying anything about it ever
Either way, you're right - it was her right to say it.
.
Disney chose to fire her for it.
.
People have chosen to exercise their rights to cancel their subscriptions, and call out Disney for it's hypocritical bullshit in response
.
We can't ALL support the forced sterilization of Muslims and the subjugation of Hong Kong the way Disney does, but we do what we can I guess
My stance on this: Did I like what she said? No. Should she still be allowed to say it? Yes. Was it smart to fire her for it? Yes. It would do more harm than good to keep her on, at least economically. It's bad PR.
Why was it smart to fire her for statements she made on her personal Twitter account, presumably not done during the course of her job, that did not incite any kind of violence, attack anyone remotely, and seemingly were guilty of nothing other than being misunderstood and/or controversial?
.
I've made comments on here that would be considered controversial. If an employer were to see them, should I lose my job?
.
You've voiced opinions I don't agree with, should you lose yours?
Because people will link her to the show, because she acts on it. By not doing anything about it, it reflects badly on the company. If you make controversial comments, and you can be easily traced back to your workplace, people can and will do that. Under an anonymous profile, you can say or do whatever, but as soon as there is a connection between you and the workplace, it becomes a workplace issue.
If that were true, then Disney would've come under more flak for kowtowing to an agency that runs a literal concentration camp, a real one, not the detention centers illegal immigrants get held at when border patrol catches them. Nah, they did this because much like the CCP, they only have a n interest in kicking down.
So the only issue is how difficult it is to trace us back to our jobs? Under this principle, if I put the effort in to find out who you are and where you work, and I showcased comments you made that had upset me, you should be fired?
There is a loud minority that will scream boycott, but be realistic... most people have no idea about some of the shit Disney has done, and they don't care as long as they get to have a bit of escapism for a little while. Losing 100k customers is nothing for Disney. Disney could lose 10 million customers worldwide and not lose 10% in net gross, 100k isn't even worth the trouble. Yes, they made the economically wise decision by swiftly dropping the hammer instead of letting questions linger and pissing more people off than needed.
As for the ethics of all of it? This is about money. This is capitalism at work; there are no freaking ethics, only profit.
I mean, for Disney this is all about showmanship. They have reached a state of mind where they think they are two big to fail.
.
And maybe they are. And the people that continue to purchase their content may be fine with that.
.
I don't think I've purchased anything with the Disney brand since around the Mulan controversy started. I've never once expected them to care - it was just my own feeling of disgust everytime I saw the logo or the brand.
.
I think people - either the general public, or Disney itself, are in for a rude awakening. Because eventually people that are tired of Disney's bullshit will have an alternative source of entertainment that WON'T censor them because of "Orange man bad" politics.
.
It will either thrive, fail, or be cut off at the knees by Disney and corporations like it.
And if the third option is what happens, and people aren't terrified at that prospect, then the CCP/etc have already won.
.
Given that people are LITERALLY fine with cancelling a woman because she said "attacking people over their politics/ideaologies/gender is something we've seen before and a VERY dangerous thing" ... it's honestly starting to feel a bit too late for that
We tried to create our own Facebooks and Twitters already. They were shut down by the "liberal" government and the existing ideological monopoly. For promoting "dangerous" ideas and for being filled entirely with "right wing extremists".
There will be no peace or reconciliation if we cannot even speak. Those calling for unity are the same ones cutting out our tongues and trying to take away our means to effect change.
They haven't shut them all down yet, but they have definitely tried.
`
People get so caught up in being offended over the things people say, they never stop to actually consider defending peoples' rights to say it.
`
What Carano said wasn't even attacking anyone.. It was encouraging people to leave each other the fuck alone. Unless I'm missing something, all people see is that she DIDN'T say:
`
"everything the trans community does is perfect at all times and should be followed without question."
.
"You can only bring up Nazi Germany if you are literally comparing Trump to Hitler (otherwise it's racism????)"
.
"There is not even a slight chance anything went wrong in this election and everyone should have absolute faith in the current regime at all times."
`
Like string me the fuck up already I guess, because I've said all of that and far less diplomatically
I'm not saying people shouldn't be afraid to face consequences, but I despise hypocrisy from entitled censorious overlords who bend over backwards to the kind of people they warn us about. Gina saying this is somehow worse publicity than openly thanking a CCP agency responsible for literal concentration camps? Doing practically the same thing the Nazi's did? And yet we have to respect Disney being oh so brave for this?
Yea, fuck Disney. I disagree with Carano's tweets (and tbh i lost a little bit of respect for her when I learned she's now working with squeaky Benny Shapiro, but given the tweets' content I guess it's not a surprise) but firing her to appease some asshole libtards who want to 'cancel' people over different opinions... fuck those people and fuck Disney.
.
But seriously. Fuck Disney.
