As someone on the spectrum who also has add I disagree with them. It's hard to even do things I want sometimes let alone fully function in normal situations.
I agree. I think this is an ignorant statement in the post due to many having an inability to function in any society. I'm sure this post is talking about those with "self diagnosed disorders". Thinking this way doesn't allow people to get help and treatment if needed
I think it's also a problem of definitions
We might have different ideas of what capitalism means, and self-diagnosis of medical issues like ADHD is a slippery area
"hierarchies and modes of production" my dudeski, the problem isn't capitalism.
You could change it out for any other system and people with mental health issues are still going to find it difficult. Society is the so called "problem", but the society we're in right now is a capitalist one so you decide to use that as the target.
Anywhos
I appreciate the sentiment that there isn’t anything fundamentally “wrong” with an atypical mind, but I disagree with implicating capitalism.
If you buy an old Soviet bicycle or a modern Swedish bike, you’ll find that much the same as capitalist bicycles, 99%+ will be made for riders with 2 hands, not one handed controls and not controls designed to use 3 hands. Most large scale social systems in history are designed by people of the “most common” physical and mental states for people mostly like them.
Now and in the past, capitalism, communism; around the globe; there are few modern examples of a “utopia” for those mentally or physically different than the majority. At different times and places it could be better or worse being “different” in any specific communism vs. any specific capitalism.
In the end it just comes down to how much we consider other people in our daily lives.
let's ask the people suffering in non-capitalist societies how they're doing with their ADHD, I'm sure they'll totally agree with this stupid post *eye roll*
