(I haven't read it either but,) there is a couple of lines from the book in which one of the character says "okay?" and the other replies "okay.", This person didn't reply "correctly" and therefore cannot borrow her book.
No 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything but we do not know what the question is so 42 cannot be the answer to any question also if the question and answer existed in the same universe that universe would collapse and be replaced by another with minor changes....
