Well, this piece specificly was featured in a Procter & Gamble TV commercial for the Sochi 2014 Olympics.

Ludovico Einaudi has also worked on the scores for seemingly countless commercials, tv shows and movies... perhaps you are recognizing his style from one of them.

To me, this sounds like it could be effectively used for soundtrack dissonance. As the music builds, it would then more accurately reflect the frenetic nature of the drama taking place in screen.
Einaudi is one of my favourite composers, along with Dvorak, Pachelbel and Cacciapaglia. It's just kind of sad that people say his music "isn't classical because it's not old", as if contemporary artists were forbidden to use the same methods and instruments as the ancient ones.
Eh, just listened on youtube, it was alright. Classical's just so boring. Even in the more epic parts everything just blends together. Needs a fucking drum line or something.
Try An American Symphony from the movie Mr Hollands Opus, it's one of my favourite 'classical' pieces (Stick with it, at about 5 mins it gets a little more epic)

As someone who listens to both classical music and hard rock/metal, I understand how you feel, although I can't say I agree. It really depends on the mood. Sometimes I feel like classical, sometimes like rock. It's an entirely different experience, and both genres have moments so beautiful that they make your skin crawl.
@elffrost
That's better, but it's still more blendy than I can be bothered to listen to. It's not a bad sound, just boring. It doesn't compel me, or keep my attention.
@ewqua
I get that, definitely, but classical doesn't really enter the equation for me. I just don't get anything from it and it's a chore to listen to.
.
The experience defies explanation.
He also wrote a song called Julia (like me) which is amazing
