I was always confused by this but were ancient Egyptians black or white?(I'm referring to white as how the US government defines it.) Do they take more from the Middle Eastern, and later European, side or more from southern/central Africa? It may be a mix of both.
The Egyptians were slave owners. If one were to perceive them as white...you can possibly see where this would go. I would want to avoid such arguments.
They were a mixture of races because they tented to assimilate the population of the regions they conquered. They were the darker black of Nubians as well as lighter brown of Middle Eastern.
Northern Africa has almost always been a place where Negroids and Caucasians intermingled, so it can be difficult to identify race in the ancient cultures that lived there. Tutankhamen was almost definitely Caucasian (at least mostly), but by the time you get to the time of Cleopatra there is a much more prevalent amount of African (Negroid) influence in Egyptian culture, which suggests that Ancient Egypt may have "blackened" over time.
From what we learned, they were more middle eastern in the beginning. As they were conquered and conquered nubia (over and over and over and over again) they did become of a darker skin. A rich copper at times, I believe.
I think he had to get a bit more tanned though, he's normally quite pale and I can see how someone can confuse him with a white person. That of course doesn't change the fact that he's absolutely awesome and that I really need to start watching Mr. Robot.
