I say that when it comes to entering an unfamiliar place, the person who is better armed or more skilled at taking point for breach and clear should go first.

Chivalry is not dead, but not for lack of idiots trying to kill it.

Chivalry was mostly about military ethos than anything else.

there is what like half a paragraph equivalent about the women?

Something like that. The Wikipedia page has a small section under "Medieval Literature", if that's any indication. My point was really that chivalry is pretty much dead, and the reason for that is that there aren't a lot of medieval knights around anymore.

Where are you going that you need to be in defensive positions? What qualifies "unfamiliar"?

Generally places you've never been before, with the exceptions of restaurants, high-class places like the Opera or a museum, or well-known places with a good reputation.

This doesn't really apply anymore unless you're entering somewhere potentially dangerous. Entering an unfamiliar restaurant or something of that sort doesn't really apply.

Even if it's somewhere dangerous a woman is perfectly capable of going first and defending herself if she so chooses

I agree, but I'm not speaking about a woman's ability to defend herself, I'm speaking about the laws of etiquette.

I dunno, I just feel like a man shouldn't have to feel obligated to do stuff cause of tradition

He's not insinuating that you have to follow the laws of etiquette, he's just saying that within those laws that's how it works.

Yeah, I don't really care how people act. But many women enjoy a chivalrous man, so I act that way. Not because I feel obligated, but because I want them to know I'm trying to treat them well.

Except for cases when a feminazi is involved then you just boot them in front of a speeding city bus!

Yea, that'll show them how their hatred of men is totally unfounded.
