If you have a job where you sit all day, stand up for a little every so often. If you have a job where you stand, bend your knees so that you are in a squatting position and back up to standing a few times in a row every hour. Walk around a small bit, if you can. The idea is to keep blood from pooling and muscles from remaining static for long periods of time.
Then we have people demanding the standing desks at cubicles. In short, we have people that could easily be doing their job sitting but are forced to stand, then we have people that are "forced" to sit at their job but demand to stand... we are a bit backwards and it seems people strive for conflict.
Why is it mutually exclusive to say "sitting all day sucks" and also that "standing all day sucks"? Both are obviously true and workers as human beings have a right to try to improve their lives and not have their health destroyed by totally unnecessary requirements.
Lifting things (like the products coming down the conveyor belt) while sitting is actually really bad for your back. Especially if the chair doesn't tuck under the counter and you have to lean forward. A better solution would be to have padded floor mats, and maybe things like foot rails where you could prop one foot up and shift your weight from time to time. Also, sufficient breaks.
I'm a cashier who works 8 hours on a concrete floor, don't assume because it's retail we don't work as long as you. I also have arthritis, nerve damage, spinal damage and a bad hip.
Nope, not how it works. If you can't do the job as required, without a chair, you can't do the job. They make that real clear.

Why is this even an argument? "It doesn't make sense in my line of work so therefore everyone else isn't allowed to want a completely reasonable fix in their own job" Cashiers just stand there. Unless it's a small business they don't have (and often aren't allowed) to walk around. It makes perfect sense that they have a chair. Why are you being a jackass?
Let's expand apart from me then a very large some of workers out there don't get to sit on the Job so why is it that retail individuals should be allowed to sit. I understand celtics situation and that's shitty, and you having a medical reason should be allowed to sit, but it makes little sense to me that retail is so strenuous that you need to sit.
Metal, if I told you you couldnt take a sip of water on the job becuase it was unprofessional, you would have to be pretty stringent to follow that policy. Standing still with little movement does hurt, your feet do have to bear your weight, and when it isn't being lessened through motion, it can cause pain, and it can cause medical issues.
I've worked retail for 13 years, never have I seen a place where chairs were allowed unless the cashier was pregnant and tge company wad afraid of a lawsuit
As someone who works in hospitality and doesn't get to sit down I get that it sucks, but honestly sitting down for hours on end isn't that great for your health and I already spend a majority of my time on my ass anyways?
standing still is not the same as being on your feet running around. standing still is honestly the wrost thing to do and seriously fucks up your body, starting with varicose syndrome, shoulder muscle pain, back pain, etc etc. not to mention it's fucking inhumane to not let people sit at work just cuz. if you're not standing you're not working? says who? goddamn sadists?
