Maybe you ought to study the past cold war history a bit. The definition of "First world" has changed a lot during the last 30 years. The old definition, based on political alliances, has become obsolete. Since what used to be called the eastern block has disappeared, the old definition doesn't make any sense any more, and it has shifted. Today "First world" generally means politically and socially stable, industrialized and wealthy countries. So the way it's commonly used today, Switzerland is of course a first world country.

Germany as a nation certainly won't claim a moral high ground. There are not many countries around where public acceptance of unflattering historic facts is so widely accepted as here. Most people don't think in terms of guilt, but rather responsibility. That's one of the things I'm really fond of germany. This being said, I wouldn't see myself as part of a group that primarily defines itself as german. I'm pretty glad to be a german, but I'm not proud of it. First of all I can't help it, where I was born. Also, like most people, germans have pretty nice and pretty revolting sides, and I have no time for people who only claim the good ones. I can be a member of a society but not part of it's main culture. So could Amir, and maybe even in two societies at a time.

America is by far not all alone in the free country department . America's Constitution is an experiment that has worked well for most people since slavery ended. England , France, Austrailia,Germany are examples of free countries. We all have different freedoms and restrictions in our laws. Could only speak in half sentences when it came to English because he was learning it... he was from Eastern Africa (not even gonna pretend I remember the country).. but they were teaching him the ideas that made calculus easy for him YEARS before.... about the same time I was taking pre-cal in HS (about 9th grade)...
I literally forgot all the stupid sin/cos/tan rules when ^2'rd or divided and shit... all those formulas... dude didn't need them. He saw them how I see ratios. I can do some nasty stuff with anything geometric... but not circles and not wavelengths. Dude was taught radians the same time he was learning degree angles; that would have gone a long way for 80% of the population here stateside; no idea why we don't do that.
