Putting all of your human eggs in one basket on earth can be a risky proposition. We haven’t built asteroid defense systems to protect against an extinction level event like what killed the dinosaurs (and we’d probably weaponize it against other humans if we did) so spreading out humanity can reduce the risk of total annihilation. Also, ‘space races’ typically produce other technologies that can benefit humanity. This is my imagination talking but if we learned how to create a breathable atmosphere there, we might be able to use that tech to clean up earth. Should we do better about war, pollution, and overpopulation on earth first? Absolutely. But we don’t know what The Great Filter is so taking preventive measures and intelligently trying to advance humanity is probably a good thing to guard against it. When it comes to Mars, I’m with Elon on this one.
Technically, most of the Biblical rules only applied to Isrealites. The usage of "neighbor" is a somewhat mistranslated word. If you wanted to translate one of the commandments, then look at "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." It would better be translated as: "You shall not covet your fellow Isrealite's house..." I also used the NIV as it is the most accurate translation to date unless that has changed in the past few months.
Also, in that verse please notice that it is talking about the neighbor's property. Everything that he owns. His house, his donkey, his wife, his slaves, his ox, etc... Just something to take note of. The Bible mentions that women are property multiple times, but I've only recently noticed that it lists women among the property in the commandments.
Mars actually has very gentle sand storms. They're totally deadly, but the wind on Mars is very gentle. Think of someone slowly caressing you with sandpaper.
