Yeah, no matter how,you say it, one will take umbrage at being called black, another will be insulted by the term African American. So, there's no winning, just more serious levels of losing.
Well the "pc" version of white is Caucasian, I'm not really sure why they tried to make some of the "politically correct" races based on nationality though
I'm native but I've also got Irish blood and probably Hungarian blood based on my grandmother's maiden name

Well I'm Norwegian-English-Welsh-Danish-Swedish-Swiss-German-American.
Yeah, they're black Americans. I'm a white American. It's just a descriptive color. My eyes are green and my hair is blond. African American just seems silly, because maybe their ancestors weren't from Africa. Or maybe they aren't Americans.
Honestly black people get cool descriptions in books because of their skin tone, like caramel or ebony. Me? I'm mashed potato white.
I mean the largest part of what makes up your genes.
Most black people have some white in them.
But we still call ourselves African-American because we are still largely African.

I’m not even mashed potato white. I’m translucent. For real, you can see my veins everywhere.
Irish-Scottish-Austrian-German. The most white. And I have blonde hair and blue eyes.
I think everyone's got different debates going on. I think we're mixing up "Nationality" with "Heritage/ Genetic History". I am Australian, my nationality is Australian. My Heritage (genetics) is English, Australian and Irish.
