55.9% at absolute most, averaging 30.9% including varying municipal and 8% income.
But at least they actually do something for the people with the money.
-insert obligatory 20-post long comment chain about tax, prisons, immigration, weather, ten zillion other things, "America fuck yeah," "America fuck no," and that eventually devolves into something unpleasant about your mother-
@mrsuperman8942 Your mother is so poor that I started a Go Fund Me on her behalf so that she would finally have the fresh start that she needed to pursue her hopes and dreams.
Your mother is so fat that I got her started on a daily regimen of exercise, proper diet, and mental therapy so she has the self confidence that she needs to look as good on the outside as she does on the inside.
Your mother is so ugly that she started volunteering at the children’s ward of the hospital’s burn unit to help children disfigured by fire realize that it’s not the look of your face that matters, it’s the content of your heart.
Small, isolated, relatively homogeneous citizenry with a country population the size of most large cities and proximity to a major economic power in Europe kind of helps, too.
My niece in Kansas has an $11000 bill for her daughter's 2 day stay in hospital for an asthma attack. Her grandmother will soon have to move to the "Sisters of the Poor" nursing home when her savings run out. She would love to go to college but can't afford to. Personally I would be happy to pay a decent tax and not have to worry about the other stuff.
It sucks when old people didn't save enough for themselves, but I still think that's their problem. The 11k bill can probably be waived or reduced; hospitals have a bad habit of just slapping ridiculous prices on bills to see if they stick, since so many of their patients either can't pay it or get out of it somehow. Tell her to get a lawyer and check her options.
Also, the solution (if anything) isn't to force everybody to pay for it, it's to force the hospitals to lower their ridiculous prices.
