I see a lot of mothers tell their sons that they shouldn’t cry, that crying is for girls. I think all people should know that they are allowed to cry, that they are allowed to share their feelings. It doesn’t matter who you are - feelings are natural and you should always feel comfortable sharing them.
Parents are terrifying if they are absolutists in any regard. Religious absolutism will destroy a child's moral compass, old-fashioned absolutism (AKA homophobia/transphobia etc) will create the next generation of bigots and honestly I think it all comes from an ignorance to other peoples existence that I think needs taught in schools. That ignorance is left on parents who believe boys can't cry, can't play with dolls. Toxic masculinity and toxic femininity are something that are bred into children being told "you shouldn't cry, you're a boy" or "you can't play with army men, you're a girl" and it is why we have such an ego issue in today's society with people displaying thinking like "I need to biggest car, I need to be the strongest." or "I need to be the prettiest" etc. We are all human. Parents need to learn.
No idea how to teach a person empathy, something I would argue is the most important emotion for humans to feel, but I feel it is necessary for humans to develop.
Fight me.
Parents can shape us in negative ways and pushing strict gender roles on your kids ("boys don't cry", "girls can't fight/do math/drive" etc) is bad, why would people not be ready for that discussion?
Also because the current political climate paints women as saints, so any negative statement towards/about a woman will have an explosive response regardless of the truth of the statement.
My grandma had this rooted in her brain that boys were better than girls. When my dad was a kid she always praised him for everything and told him he was good at everything (even if it was the first try), the first time she met my mom she actually told her "you're lucky, my son knows how to do everything". My uncle became a narcisstic asshole and my dad has a tendency to believe his will prevails (the TV program, where we're gonna go...) Luckily my mom and I generally don't give a flying fuck what we're watching or in which place we're gonna hang so in the end we get along pretty well.
"suck my toxic cock" I love how he just admitted he's toxic.
Or maybe he just fucks so many toxic people that his dick is now toxic too.
Either way, congratulations, you played yourself.
Oh I'm always ready for a discussion. And I never play myself; I play with myself! Look children, I don't give a rodent's posterior whether the poster is talking about men, women, or martians it's absolute bullshit. The problem is with your acceptance that there is such a thing as "toxic masculinity" in the first damn place. There is nothing remotely wrong with enjoying being a man and refusing to apologise for it. There is nothing wrong with growing a beard. There is nothing wrong with enjoying football, going hunting, getting the guys (and gals) together for cookouts, drinking beer, watching action movies, or going to the gym. There is nothing wrong with acting like a man and not a damn snowflake. This drive to erase manhood, as well as every other damn thing about normal men (and women too for that matter) has got to be stopped. So yes. As a straight, white, somehow privileged, natural-born man who's fed up with this stupidity I will shout from the rooftops: SUCK MY TOXIC COCK!
I've never given toxic masculinity much thought, but I'm fairly certain it's got nothing to do growing a beard or enjoying football. Nevertheless, I think I'll let @guest_ take the wheel on this one (if they want to) since I'm fairly certain they can handle this topic better
Xvarnah that was a jab at a recent Gillette commercial that tried to equate unshaven men with this "toxic" bullshit. Surely those of you who spend time in the sewers of antisocial media have at least heard about this particular commercial, if not seen it on the telly-o-vision set, and seen or heard about the backlash against Gillette? No? Well Google it. It was a horribly offensive commercial and I was surprised to see so many people taking a stand against Gillette because of it.
I actually generally avoid social media. Always have and likely always will. Funsub is about as social as I get. Either way I haven't heard nor seen the commercial. Either way, even assuming it wasn't obvious before this that the notion that men that don't shave are toxic gremlins is ludicrous, given that guest_ as far as I know doesn't shave and tends to be among the more eloquent among us, not to mention one of our former users who sadly doesn't comment anymore. It's clearly bullshit and doesn't seem worth investing time in to be honest
Toxic masculinity = toxic behavior that stems specifically from gender roles/expectations on men. It's a subcategory of toxic personality/toxic behavior, just like toxic femininity.
Examples of toxic masculinity: catcalling, being aggressive, telling other men not to cry because they're men (seriously the last one is very damaging to men's psyche). What is NOT toxic masculinity: enjoying stereotypically manly things (as long as nobody gets seriously hurt obv), being comfortable in your identity as a man.
Examples of toxic femininity: being emotionally manipulative (such as by crying to get sympathy), expecting men to always pay for you. What is NOT toxic femininity: enjoying stereotypically feminine things, being comfortable in your identity as a woman.
There. This isn't about erasing manhood, this isn't about not letting men be men, but rather about erasing gender stereotypes which are redundant at best, dangerous at worst.
@guest- ewqua has done a wonderful job summing this up as has Xvarnah. But for my piece- toxic masculinity isn’t about being a man or having to apologize for it. Toxic masculinity isn’t when a man doesn’t feel like crying so he doesn’t- it’s when a man feels like crying but is ashamed of it, and doesn’t because a “man isn’t supposed to.” Toxic masculinity isn’t when a man finds a woman attractive- maybe even wants to have sex. It’s not even when he treats her like an object or without human respect- a sociopath might do that. It’s when he treats her like that because he’s a “man” and he’s “supposed to” or “it’s his right to” or “that’s her place as a woman.” Be aggressive, ambitious, flirtatious, promiscuous if you like. Grow a beard and watch sports and refuse to drink booze that isn’t brown and on the rocks is the closest you’ll get to a mixed drink- but not from some antiquated gender ideas- because you want to- and with respect to others, and without imposing those expectations...
.... or an expectation of inherit complicitness from others. “Toxic masculinity” is simply a modern term for a combination of ideas. Firstly- a basic set of social manners- respecting the space and time, emotions and views of others- but also an idea of self accountability. To own ones behavior and be conscious of how ones actions effect others. It’s revoking the right to behave like an ass and shrug and boyishly smirk and say “hey- I’m a man. That’s how we are.” I’m a man. I won’t list my full credentials but I ride motorcycles, race cars, shoot guns, est red meat, keep my word and responsibilities, I can build and paint cars from the frame up and have. I’ve built houses and can do it all plumbing, electrical, pavers, landscaping- but don’t loke roofing or framing. There’s way more. But I don’t like sports in general, I don’t really drink and beer is near the bottom of the most when I do. I don’t and never have cat called women, I always get consent, I try to avoid micro aggressions..
... blah blah. So you can “be a man,” enjoy “manly” things- but you don’t have to be some human cliche and what “being a man” even is is up for debate. The fact a razor company commercial would have men shaving it in likely had less to do with their public service message and more to do with the fact they sell razors and spent millions on a razor commercial so figured they’d at least work their product in somehow while they were sermonizing. My mother raised me to respect women. To me that is a HUGE part of “being a man” and I cant see a person who doesn’t as a full adult man. So if you have a bone with Gillette or their perceived portrayal of beards as evil- that’s an issue to discuss Gillette- not a reason to reject the idea that traditional ideas of masculinity are toxic.
I think it's an even more awkward moment when one person explained the issue eloquently as heck and the other has no argument so they just pretend it's not worth replying to. We see through your bullshit, guestwho.
There's no arguing with idiocy. Probably not your fault; you have likely been thoroughly indoctrinated in school. Kids today have had common sense and reason bred out of them and it has been replaced by blind loyalty and acceptance of whatever leftist propaganda you are fed. Occasionally I do get bored enough to try. Not because I think I can break through the walls of ignorance, but just for my own amusement. I am not that bored at the moment.
@equa-I think I owe you an apology. It seems that my generation has failed the kids of today by creating a system of indoctrination. We also apparently created some kind of eugenics program which successfully bred the common sense and reason (2 things proven to be genetic marks of breeding...) out of kids. I graduated school long before the “leftists” took over completely, but these poor kids never had that chance. If only they had followed guestwho’s example and obviously not went to school at all after 3rd grade they would be free of indoctrination and propaganda about things like genetics or philosophy- they would be free from manners, civility, or respect to go online and talk down to strangers with baseless assumptions and a tin foil hat. They could have learned of chem trails passifying the citizens, and of the liberal agenda on their own. It sometimes keeps me up at night. But don’t fret. You seem to not have had common sense and reason bred out ewqua- like how you reasoned...
...guestwho has nothing constructive or intelligent to say, and then they proved you right. Or how you called them out on dropping in with “it’s not worth replying..” (itself a reply) and then they posted another reply about how they have better things to do than argue petty facts- like post substanceleas jabs at the intelligence of others and why their “inferior” minds are universally wrong. I might have a new favorite funsub class clown. Perhaps there is a high level of self deprecating humorous satire at work in guestwho’s comments. Or perhaps just an echo in an entry garbage can. We shall see with time I suppose. Hope you’re having a good weekend @ewqua.
@guest_ I am having a lovely weekend, thank you!
And yes, I have definitely been brainwashed by a leftist programme but damn are the lizard people secretive about it. They even erased our minds afterwards so that we would also forget everything they taught us. How thorough!
Side note, I've been reading some books about populism lately and guestwho displays many of the signs of... Let's say a person who would get very easily influenced by a populist movement. The us vs them mentality, the dehumanization/ad hominems, the borderline conspiracy theory, the "things used to be better in the past" mindset (also often called "Heartland")... Maybe I've been brainwashed by education but it's really interesting to see the signs here
I thought guestwho was just trying really hard to have the last word even though they have nothing of substance to say ... But your explanation is way funnier
@ewqua- I’m glad your weekend is going well and our sinister reprogramming is holding. The key to our plans was in gaining control of public broadcast media like PBS, and then inventing social media as a front led by shell companies belonging to Marxist rebels. I mean- once you’ve faked a moon landing global conspiracies are a breeze! Sadly I’ve had to work on our next project so haven’t had much feee time this weekend. Without spoiling too much I’ll just say that bottled water has set back our mind control programs using fluoride in public water. That’s what’s allowed so many right wingers to wake up and resist our sinister master plan. We are looking for more universal ways to distribute serum that can get around bottled water. Public healthcare and vaccinations are the two main routes we are planning to use- but we might yet have a surprise or two in the ‘ol liberal tool kit. 2020 will be a big year for the global leftist conspiracy. Exciting stuff.
Ah proof of my thesis. You really are a programmed libtard. Your side really should learn that made up lies do not work against someone with the balls to stand up against you. I tip my MAGA hat to your efforts but...
