Au contraire, mon frere.
As job fields get supersaturated with college grads, a degree becomes less novel. There are more jobs, paying more money, in the skilled labor force.
Going to trade school and becoming an electrician will pay off far faster than almost any college degree will currently.
A bachelor's degree essentially has the same value a high school diploma did 30 years ago. If you want to go into a trade, great! If not, then you need to wipe out four years of career time, then pay off 50K in debt. I'm a big fan of higher ed, but the way it's done and administered is a racket.
Mental health problems and food insecurity amongst college students is insanely high. The university in my home town just opened a free food shelf because the students were going hungry.
I love the irony that the university chose to create a free food shelf rather than reduce tuition, give more scholarships, forgive a percentage of your student loans if you complete a certain number of hours of community service, or just make all cafeteria food free. Students: ‘We’re starving and drowning in debt.’ University: ‘Here’s free Top Ramen. Do you prefer shrimp-flavored or beef?’
