Squids is what those are often called. ATGATT- all the gear, all the time. But it’s your life- those lifetime bikers who don’t wear helmets and bike in sleeveless leather vests- that’s their skin. I’ve spent more on gear than I have on bikes in my life. Glad you’re ok, let’s both keep wearing our gear so we can meet in another thread sometime. Good hunting.
Please don't say "I'm a good rider, I won't have a crash" You might be the best rider in the world, that won't keep you safe from the other morons on the road.
Someone pulling out in front of me is what caused mine. There were 3 lanes. I was in the middle lane. They pulled straight from the shopping center to the middle lane....Of course, the week before someone had done the same thing in the same spot when I was in my car. Idiots all around.
Funny enough- when you start breaking down motorcycle statistics and not just looking at a total of injuries compared to cars it gets interesting. Like 50% of motorcycle accidents the rider had alcohol in their blood. 74% of accidents on a bike are frontal collisions- rider hits something front on. The majority of motorcycle accidents don’t involve a car at all- things like a biker going off a curve from riding too fast, losing control at high speed etc. 60% of motorcycle accidents happen at night. 52% occur weekend nights with the most occurring between 9pm and 2am. 54% of accidents on motorcycles are riders over 40 years old.
Simply being under 40 cuts out odds a good deal. Not riding between 9pm and 2am cuts your odds greatly. Not riding nights and weekends will drop your odds quite a bit, and never drinking on your bike will increase them ENORMOUSLY. Riding the speed limit and not riding over aggressively cuts them even further. Improper lane change by rider is another HUGE cause you can cut. Do all these things and you can make Rodin a motorcycle to work less dangerous than riding a bicycle by statistics. While 80% of motorcycle accidents result in injury or death- only 5% of motorcycle accidents result in death.
That said- wearing JUST. A helmet can SIGNIFICANTLY reduce fatal injuries and serious debilitating injuries MAGNITUDES. Adding proper protective outerwear and other appropriate gear can make your odds of keeping your life, all your skin, and the ability to use your limbs and mind much better in case something DOES happen. I mean hell- if you never crash your car why do you need insurance? Why bother using a baby seat or putting your kid in the back seat either? Shit happens. It’s your life- wear gear or don’t, but when you become a statistic you raise the rest of our insurance and make us look bad too- so I hope you never crash for your sake and mine.
Yeah I see plenty of people ride around with shorts, a t-shirt, and a skull cap helmet...
That won't do anything in a crash...
