Easy. If the tenant is not upholding their end of the contract, then they are no longer allowed to stay. If they refuse to leave, then you either call the authorities or remove them for trespassing.
Or you would rather be forced to relinquish your property to and be accountable to someone who cannot uphold their end of a contract? There's a couple of words to describe forcibly claiming another's property, services, and labor.
There's always savings, pension, family, Churches, or downsizing.
Nobody has any right to another's property or labor. Just because they've lived longer than me does not make me their slave.
But isn’t it intrinsically part of the role of government to assist those in society with legitimate needs? She’s obviously not milking the system, she just outlived what she saved for retirement.
it is not however the role of random landlord number 32235 to "assist those in society with legitimate needs"
in America you have the right to help people in many states based on good Samaritan laws. You also have the right to no interfere. There is no obligation on any American citizen to assist another American if they do not want to, save for dependency obligations like parent child relationships
no, she's in an independent living facility. That's basically an apartment block that also has "live in nurses" on staff. Its not government run (its america even if it was a medical facility its still not government run and they dont HAVE to help anyone.)
the owners of the "appartment block" (IE: landlord) dont have any obligation to their tenants past keeping the home functional.
An independent living facility is a medical facility and as such does have certain legal obligations when it comes to medical care. However, I never claimed it was government-run. What I did say is that the government has an intrinsic duty to assist its citizens in times of need such as this. Hence, if she can’t pay for it because she’s just plain out of money and has no family to help the government should step in to cover her costs. The medical facility should have a process in which they can apply on her behalf for these funds.
The federal government's duty is to defend individual rights and liberties from encroachment.
State and municipal governments can decide how to deal with their issues.
Who said anything about federal? @bethorien If public healthcare doesn’t exist in the US then why is 600+ billion dollars being spent on Medicaid?
.
However, the question still stands. Shouldn’t the government have a responsibility to care for those members of society that can’t care for themselves? If this was a 6yo kid getting kicked from an orphanage would you feel differently? We protect our young when they are vulnerable but not our elderly when they become vulnerable again due to their age?

Socialism and communism are two rather apt ones
