Because they were forced to give kids fruit instead of fries in their Happy meals and can't advertise the toys anymore.

As a former mcdonalds employee: the apple slices arent forced to be in your happy meal. They are optional and they still advertise their toys. Dunno where you got your info from but you're totally wrong

Maybe because it was seen as advertising directed at kids and there are laws regulating that.
