Listen if I could have the aesthetic of the nuclear household I would in a heartbeat that shit’s cute. However, I would rather kill myself than give my freedom and self respect over to someone else like some of those wives had to. They spent their whole lives raising their kids only for the lil shits to seek dads affection while treating mom worse than a dog
Yesss you summed up my feelings on it exactly. The aesthetic is so nice. But I wouldn't like to go back to get treated like I'm subhuman. Just look at ads from that time. "So easy to use a woman can figure it out!" Like excuse me what the fuck. Or the ones that straight up supported domestic violence. It was not a good time to be a woman. Even the fashion, as nice as it was, was very strict.
I honestly wouldn't know what to do with myself if a woman decided she wanted to do that. Like, I'm an adult who can, and likes to do, my own shit. I don't need a maid.

Trust me I got nothing wrong with someone choosing to live life like this, but doesn’t that just mean she’s a glorified baby sitter who he sleeps with? That’s like the whole dynamic of marriage before when had rights
If she's a genuine home maker than they tend to do a lot of cooking (like make sure food is ready when he gets home), cleaning, staying gussied up all the time, raising kids, etc. Depending on their relationship she may also still deal with things like appointments, finances, whatever else. She may even have taken on home repairs. Just depends on the individual couple. Also, as a side note, raising kids is a shit ton of work that most families have to hire someone to do, so that's not exactly a position that needs to be glorified.
Being a home maker is way tougher than my job, I for one have the utmost respect for someone who keeps the whole home running smooth.

@strongsad I get that, as long as it’s her choice, I have no problem against it
When you think about how that used to be a forced standard though, it’s another story
Like being a wife used to mean you had no choice but to be a home maker and main child care source. So back then, it was like a woman was nothing more than someone to make the husbands home clean and their kids healthy
Not sure why this got downvoted, that was literally the way things were and still are in a lot of places. You had a vagina, you were a homemaker. Which isn't an inglorious task, but if it's not what you wanted to be that's a really shitty deal.
.
I may have this wrong, but iirc spinning became one of the first ways for women to independently raise money way back when without a man, and "spinster" was quickly turned into a dirty word - which is still used to day for the same purpose.
Story times... yay!
So my step mom was a stay at home mother throughout the childhood of my two step-brothers and two half-sisters. For awhile she could manage it all without too much stress, but once my youngest sister came and my grandma had to move in with my dad, it became too much. I tried to help out while I was there, as I could see her physical deterioration and could only imagine her mental deterioration. She began chain-smoking to deal with the stress, then developed Lupus (yes, seriously, Lupus... sorry Dr. House), and then got addicted to morphine. It got to the point where she was down to 78 lbs. My dad and her had to sell the house after my grandma died to help pay for the medical expenses. At this point my two step-brothers were out of the house and my elder half-sister was about to graduate HS, and her health began to improve; getting off the morphine and my youngest step-brother going away so her pill source went away helped. As my youngest half-sister has now (1/2)
graduated, and the stress has dissipated, her health has improved exponentially. She's back up to 135 lbs, doesn't get sick nearly as often, no pill problems, and now works part-time just to stave off boredom.
So... I have the utmost respect for stay at home moms; that's one of the toughest and most stressful jobs on Earth. (2/2)
