Wouldn't that mean that taxes is a crime and that we are being robbed. Sure it pays for certain public things but how much does it really go and where exactly?
"Sure it pays for certain public things but how much does it really go and where exactly?" - that's a valid question and it's quite easy to answer as the government isn providing info. Too bad this info cannot be gathered in a flickering, hectic three-minute video, so unfortunately a certain group of people, namely the ones with a severe grasping-inability will probably never find out and have to roam the net babbling vague and random nonsense about it. As is the case with so many other things that won't fit that type of format.
But was it legal? If he only paid that amount because for various reasons that's all he owed then your issue is with the tax laws. It's not a competition about who paid the most taxes. It's not a competition at all. AOC claimed people in New York were killing people and burning stores because they couldn't buy food. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to take her opinion as motivated by anything other than self interest either since it's clear she's so out of touch with the people she represents.
The people influencing tax law are the rich people who dont pay their share. What do you actually propose to do about that? Activision as a company receives money FROM THE US in taxes rather than pay any. Amazon despite clearly being an american company has a tiny "headquarters" in Ireland and thus pays almost nothing in taxes to the US.
What are we as individual citizens supposed to do about these tax laws? The US desperately needs a VAT, but any candidate that suggests it gets buried because both major political parties are corporate owned.

for all the companies that make almost all of their profit here but use loopholes to avoid paying any of it back
inb4 theyll raise prices which is a facet of the free market regardless/ tax laws are somehow individual voters fault/ other non-arguments people raise for some reason
@xdmaniac I like what your fervor and I appreciate what you're saying. I won't downvote you because I prefer to have discussion and I hope you read this. Companies can, will, and should find ways to cut costs in a general sense within the law. That is my ideal. However, we always need to start at the top and work our way down. The Federal government puts these rules in place. They are taxing all of us so everyone falls beneath them. My suggestion, my idea, is rather then take more from peoples pockets, corporate or otherwise, is efficient money rather than more money. People can only produce so much. Companies can only produce so much. Rather then taxing large corporations that donate large amounts of money to cut taxes, hire employees so they can feed their families and so on, what we need to do is hold those spending not the governments money but the taxpayers money. It is our money and we entrust the government to care for it well.
Trump has not received an income for the four years that he has been president. He also transferred control of his company over to his children. Any remaining property that he owes taxes on can be offset by donations and other forms of tax breaks. Is it outrageous that a billionaire only paid a couple hundred bucks in taxes, yes. But the problem lies in the tax laws and the common person's ability to research and understand them.
Did anyone actually read the article or are we just at the point where we trust rage bait headlines over our own ability to digest and investigate information?
Uhhmmmm...I'll get right on that....Lol
I found it. Trump paid $750 in taxes in 2016 and 2017. I'd link the article but WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TOO. Not that I mind.....
In response to a letter summarizing The Times’s findings, Alan Garten, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, said that “most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate” and requested the documents on which they were based. After The Times declined to provide the records, in order to protect its sources, Mr. Garten took direct issue only with the amount of taxes Mr. Trump had paid.
“Over the past decade, President Trump has paid tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government, including paying millions in personal taxes since announcing his candidacy in 2015,” Mr. Garten said in a statement.

The New York Times has obtained tax-return data extending over more than two decades for Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his business organization, including detailed information from his first two years in office. It does not include his personal returns for 2018 or 2019. This article offers an overview of The Times’s findings; additional articles will be published in the coming weeks.
