Well ya, it happened to me when i decided to watch the hunger games movie after reading the novel.... like book1>movie1>book2 ..and so on... then i didn't know the actors and who played what.
.
So 1st book was just me imagining blank faces talking and all ... then second book it was jen talking to josh and woody and all.
Also, i watched the second movie like 3-4 months after reading and so like my brain kinda made a false memory that i had already seen the movie. That shit confused me for weeks until i finally watched it
Definitely 1. I can forget or not care (or not agree, for instance "he's super cute! He has a square face" makes me go yeah no he doesn't if you want me to roll with this) so I give them a face that fits better.
What's a bit annoying is when I see a movie and then re-read the book, Harry and Ron still have the same face they had when I first read the book but Hermione is Emma Watson.
I visualize what my brain wants to visualize, and changes it based on info I get. I once read an entire book thinking a character had black hair, then read a lil short sequel soon after which described her as "a beautiful blonde haired girl", and that really fucked me up for a bit lol
Its a bit crazy but I actually imagine myself as the character except for when its a girl/ woman. Then I use different actresses as reference. Thats because I only know them from movies or interviews so I fill in the things I don't know with descriptions from the book. I don't know if it makes sense.
Yeah definitely! I also imagine myself as the main character, sometimes I start 3rd person and it drifts to 1st somewhere in the process. I get new meatsuits for the other characters though.

I am reading a novel by Toni Morrison (just started). Its protagonist is a former slave so I picture Kerry Washington as Sethe, the main character.
Sethe? Are you reading Beloved? I read it a few years ago, one of the best books I've ever read. Hauntingly beautiful and gripping.

I just started Beloved. I'm finishing another book called Memory man at the same time. Its by David Baldacci. I love his style of writing.

My library is closed due to lockdown. Thank god, I bought those 2 books brand new. My library has a system where when you finish a book and if it is not worn out or damaged, you can exchange it or donate it. So I was thinking of exchanging Baldacci's novel for another book of the Amos Decker series now I'm fucked.
My brain fills in the gaps a bit too well so sometimes when the author describes something or someone explicitly and my brain has already imagined it/them differently, I get so mindfucked and have trouble adjusting because my brain has already decided what that thing or person looks like.
Like, I read the Ranger's Apprentice as a teen (only the first three books I think, then I moved to A Song of Ice and Fire) and for some reason I imagined the main char's pony as silvery white/grey. Then my friend who also read it was like "he's brown duh, he has to have good camouflage in the forest" and I facepalmed because my brain had already decided he was light colored and I couldn't un-imagine it even though it made more sense for him to be brown.
Edit: I looked it up on the wiki and the pony (his name's Tug btw) IS gray! My brain was right all along! Ha!
3, Most of my visualization requires defined descriptors, but I can fill in details if I take a close enough look at stuff that might not have filled in the boxes. It's sort of like...being out of focus with a camera. I know this person has eyes an a nose, I just don't know what color or shape those might be.
Never have time to read anymore. Sometimes write instead of sleeping. Always have to cast the parts using actresses and actors to give face and voice to characters.

I read it last month, it's cool!
