45-70 is a rifle round, probably the first sniper round in America actually. Most rifles 150 years ago where only accurate to 200 yards/meters. But the Sharps rifle could one shot drop anything from a man to a bison at over 500 yards/meters. The Sharps rifle is why marksman are sometimes referred to as sharpshooter. But you only get that range with a long barrel. A cowboy with this pistol is like a Infantryman with a single shot .50BMG pistol. You ask him why he carries it and he responds something like "I like to clear out buildings without opening any doors or windows, its more fun to kill them through the wall."
