In all seriousness, I have a question for you @karlboll for my own curiosity
Are you of the opinion that pronouns (any use or misuse thereof) are solely a matter for interpersonal negotiation?
Or are they a matter of state force (I.e. fines, cages, guns)?
Interesting question @cakelover. I think pronouns are contextual and, to be honest, a bit made up. I don't think they have to be tied to what's in a person's pants but that they're a means to communicate, much like a name or a title, who we are and what to expect from us.
Myself, as an example, am very much a cis-male. I was assigned male at birth by the doctor, i was given a very masculine name by my parents, i dress in a typically male way and anyone who sees me have no trouble guessing what's in my pants. My social gender and my biological sex are aligned and of no inconvenience to me or anyone else.
I suppose that's why it came as a bit of a shock when I realized how incredibly upset some people get when other people's social gender and, presumed, biological sex where not aligned. I've even been shouted at because I didn't think a lady had any need to know the gender of my cat.
That's why I find it hilarious that people don't seem to react in the least when giving pronouns to inanimate objects like cars and ships. Apparently it's only wrong when it's a thinking and feeling person who wishes it.
Politically I'm sort of an old school liberal, i don't want the government or any organisation to control or make policy about what I or anyone else can do with our own bodies. The job of government imho is to protect the individual and provide services denied by the market.
Mostly though I just want people to be happy and treat each other with respect and if I can make someone a little happier by calling them by their preferred name and pronoun I'll be more than happy to oblige.
(this is just a joke not trying to argue or anything)
Well, the car has a gas intake, and exhaust port, there's two holes there, and it don't got a dick, so I guess it's a she.
LOL .. actually had that argument with a guy who insisted the where "in holes" and "out holes" and that's how you'd define female and male. I asked him his opinion on the mouth since you put food and air in to it but exhale and vomit out of it.
