They do taste different! I'm American and drink more coffee than tea but I make both using a glass kettle on the stove to heat the water (I make coffee in a french press).
I'm from the Midwest and any people I know don't own kettles, but some people I know do own kettles. It probably has a fair amount to do with what circles of people are in your life.
Personally, I have a small kitchen and don't find the difference worth the space a kettle takes up. But I drink a fair amount of coffee and cold brew or sun brew most of my tea
It would depend on the kettle and how much you fill it! If you fill my kettle it can take around 5minute to boil. If I only put enough for one cuppa it's under a minute
You can certainly boil water in the microwave. It's not ideal, but it is doable. I prefer to use a kettle, but when one isn't available, I use a microwave.
Ok so my family has a kettle (I don't drink tea) but that just takes too long so you throw your mug or whatever with the water in the microwave for 1.5 minutes and then throw the teabag in there. It's not that hard to do
My kettle broke last week, and we had to send it to this guy on the internet to be fixed, so I've been using the microwave.
Forgive me of my sins. *cries*
Until fairly recently next to noone in the UK had coffee machines so most people who drink coffee are quite used to having instant made with hot water from the kettle, imagine Americans might have the same shock reaction to that?
I get different flavors of tea too. Green tea, Earl Grey, Sleepytime, Chamomile, Chai, etc.

But I can't get one. I haven't the money.
Your statement's correct.
But tis America 'm dear,
What did you expect?
When I don't have my instrument cause it would be too much to carry through the metal detectors
Why is this so hard?
If you want to make tea in America... you throw it in the harbor.
Forgive me of my sins. *cries*
Mostly I just boil the water
It's mostly coffee around here
