Sure. In real life you don’t have to say you didn’t like a movie either, or that you disagree with a political stance, etc. If someone starts talking to you about it, or If someone were to stand in the middle of a crowded room and start speaking to no one in particular you certainly might be prompted to. The OP didn’t have to post their opinion for a world of strangers to see on a forum where those people could see it and respond either. They could start a blog or even keep it to themselves if they didn’t want comments. Email it or set up a private site if you only want some people to see it. People can ignore it, decide it isn’t worth the time or the effort. They can also comment- because you felt the need to post where they could see and reply. So really is this saying that people should just not post anything on the public internet, not reply to anything at all, or only comment on things they agree with? None of those sounds very wise, nor does not challenging wrong where you see it
Yes, but there's a difference between something I don't agree with and something that is literally either A) completely incorrect, or B) literal hate speech. So yeah, I'm going to stand up for myself and others. I'm not just going to hope someone else will take care of it.
Well said. Be it ignorance or plain evil- to stand by and say or do nothing is all it needs to take root and spread like a plague. Once it’s grown far and deep, once it has gained traction and momentum, what could have been stopped easily or with relatively little effort may become like a cancer and cause much suffering in its existence as well as in the effort to remove it.
Nobody has to respect your opinion just because you have it.
