Others have mentioned exceptions to this rule but I would like to mention another. Some people either very much hope for twins, or are sure due to family history or general superstition they will have twins. Some also seek out medical treatments like IVF and either have an increased chance of twins or specifically attempt for twins and thus are aware or even planning on twins. So just because one is a twin does not mean that twins were a total surprise or not planned for. Just as twins can be completely unplanned with no plans to produce even one child.
My mom KNOWS she was unplanned.
My mom was born before ultrasound.
When my grandmother gave birth to my mom's twin my uncle they thought she was all done. So they sent her to her room. She complained the whole time saying she knows she is still pregnant. They argued with her. It was her 5th delivery so she said she KNEW what needing to deliver feels like.
They still ignored her. So she got out of bed and started to walk to the delivery room. After just giving birth.
They caught her mid way and decided to humor her.
Sure enough my mom was born. She was born with a chest cold. The family laughs saying it is because her twin brother left to door open lol.
So yeah she was a HUGE surprise even the doctors had no clue.
But to be far she was the first set of twins delivered by that doctor.
Funny side note I was the last baby he delivered.
Lol it was his first EVER set of twins and it was before ultrasound and all other sorts of things that could even tell there was more than one heart beat.
Plus it is a extremely small town. Last time I was there the population was 7600+ so yeah pretty small.
So yeah not many near by options lol there is only 2 clinics in town one for kids one adults.
