Yea, it came from owo or OwO being a face, and then uwu being the closed eye version of it. owo I see as kinda surprised and in wonder (Like "owo what's this?") and uwu as more... flirtacious, caring, gentle, implying? (Like "I love you uwu"). The furry community took it and ran with it, and now that iconic w sound in the middle of the faces is used with a studder to get that awkward lovey 'I'm quirky' style of speaking
It's funny because I actually graduated from there and I like seeing the mug and when someone added a c and an f to the UNT Art building... This isn't surprising to me either
