well, in the case this post is the truth, id assume that its the perfect size for pans so that you can just put the pan in there without transferring the food into a different container while you work on the other stuff you are cooking
It's actually called the "lou-oond" or "warm-laai" in Afrikaans, which translates to lukewarm oven or hot-drawer. Often when the husbands or kids came home late, the food would be stored there.
Am I crazy? I've always thought that it was a broiling drawer. If the oven uses gas, the flames at the bottom of the oven are above whatever you put in there to be broiled? Electric ovens dont have the broiling drawer because the induction coils are at the top and bottom so you can bake and broil in the same compartment
