30-50 feral hogs

I remember being cornered by a dozen hogs when I was a kid. Thank Christ I was packing an AR-15.
On another occasion I had to deal with a wolverine on grandpa's property. Got to do that with an M1A.
And there was the time I helped a neighbor deal with coyotes that killed her sheep dog.
And just before I shipped for the Army I loaned my cousin the AR because her ex kept violating the restraining order and the police were 15 minutes out.

do feral hogs even travel in large packs?

That was great and quite the adventure, but in honesty an AR isn't the right weapon; they run from noise. Traps and dogs trained NOT to bark.

Feral hogs are literally wiping out species in Australia, so they might have like 10-15 threatening their children

If I remember correctly, because feral hogs/pigs/boars are an invasive species, you can shoot as many of them as you want at any time of year.
