I think of it as the same way I am religious better be safe than sorry lmfao
I rather believe in god I case he is real and there is a heaven.
And if there isn’t who does it hurt?
So I will wear a mask and be a “sheeple” because it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Well... yes. We do it all the time. Money has value because everyone agrees it does. Are 20 pieces of cloth/paper worth a computer? Not unless you really need cloth or it’s some super special cloth. But- not too many places in the world don’t have some sort of money. Take your cloth and go buy paper that says you own a piece of an idea- and of its an idea lots of people agree is super awesome- you can sell that paper and get WAY more cloth than you spent. If everyone just decides to abandon that idea- your paper is suddenly worth the same as a used piece of paper. Manners are just an agreement between a bunch of people- a common agreement that there are certain ways to behave and so on. “F*ck” and “a*$” and “n%g#%r” are just sounds made by people’s mouths. A majority of the world just agreed those words were bad- not right to say in certain situations.
But most of the world agrees on peace. Most people prefer peace and security and never have to worry about war and violence and pain caused by others. We disagree on how that peace should work- and more importantly- as is common with anything that gives an advantage- if no one else will use it and you will- you can get what you want. Violence is a tool. It is a fundamental seed, violence or the threat of violence- from which authority is derived. Asking, bargaining, tricking, and so forth- even if you are far better at these things than the other person- they merely have to be stubborn enough or avoid you- and you lose all power you have to make what you want happen, happen.
Violence, force however- if you are better able to apply it than them- you can get most things you want without them needing to agree. So world governments- each with their own interests- like most humans- would generally prefer a world where there was only peace, and everyone else just did as they wanted without a need to use force. But... seldom is it the case that you can ask a person to act fundamentally against their own interests or the interests of those they care for- for your own- and have them comply.
You’d find that walking up to people and saying: “excuse me- I’d like your money and personal info. Please give them to me...” with no fear on their part of violence- would be very successful or very consistent on its success. But- do the same thing with a gun and make clear that the choice is compliance or harm- success rates sky rocket. Even if they resist- you kill them and take it. Your chance of success against someone not wanting to comply goes up greatly.
Now of course- we see politicians and governments make decisions all the time because they are the popular consensus wether prudent or not. When election or support hinges on tighter gun control- we get tighter gun control. When it’s the opposite- we get the opposite. If the rest of the workers in your department make $30 an hour and you don’t- you’d probably push to get the $30 an hour on the grounds that they get it and you don’t. As humans- as voters- if we see that the UK has strict gun laws and we don’t- and people get shot- regardless of any facts a bunch of voters will blame their politicians because these other guys thought ahead to protecting people. It doesn’t actually matter if the two things are directly relatable-
If a bad thing happens- people will look for someone to blame. It doesn’t matter if it was actually foreseeable (look at Covid) or if any human could be at fault- the same way that politicians get credit when things go well even if it is luck or nothing they could have predicted and made happen- they will get the blame if something goes bad. The concept is called: CYA. You do things not necessarily for direct practical reasons- but because of things go badly you can mitigate or redirect blame by saying you did all you could. Then the mob tends to look elsewhere for their pound of flesh.
Is that what is happening with Covid? I’d wager to some degree. When politicians who don’t actually believe the data or experts still back masks in one way or another even the flaccid “I believe in recommending but not forcing...” that’s CYA. But hoax? That I don’t know. To what end? To who’s benefit? The worlds scientific and medical experts had a conference and decided on an epic prank for “Lulz”? Mistake- MAYBE- but hoax implies intentional dishonesty as opposed to simply not being omnipotent gods just because you’re an “expert” so having to make the determinations your current data supports- and changing those when and if new data casts sufficient doubt.
Tl:dr- one must cover their a$* because when things go wrong people want someone to blame even if no one could have known better. So you do what you have to do so people can’t say you reasonably could have done more. If all the other world politicians did it and you don’t- and you have an epic body count- people will say you should have done what everyone else did. Some of that is at play here but mostly it’s that experts based on data right now mostly agree on what is prudent. When and if data changes, what is advised changes. That’s how science works. Experts aren’t gods- they are just humans who are more knowledgeable but don’t have perfect knowledge.
I will never pretend to be a medical expert. I do not have a problem with masks and social distancing for the next eighteen months. BUT in my area we sucked at quarantine. Only non essential businesses shut down, at least half of people never wore masks because it was never required until 3 weeks ago. Cancer, heart disease and old age are still the leading causes of death on my area. When news came about Italy and Spain, we expected something out of the book of Revaluations. But it never really came, so while I don't approve its not like they don't have a leg to stand on.
For them who be wondering, the state of North Dakota has had over 8000 confirmed cases (not hospitalizations) and 129 deaths. Pop, 760K. We suck at quarantine, we only have started to wear masks in the last few weeks so what's REALLY going on here?
Huh. Well- we live in a diverse world full of people with different values and proverbs and such. I suppose it’s just best to try and respect and each other and do our best to accommodate everyone even when the solution isn’t quite perfect. Whatever one believes- when the freedom of one person who makes an actual choice, would impinge upon the freedom of another person who is merely existing in the world- we must protect the freedom of the person who is effectively not making a choice. Just the same as your choice to use your freedom to listen to music at 400db at 3am does not beat out the freedom of your neighbor who is just trying to sleep by existing in their home at 3am. Asking them to not sleep in their own home is a bigger infringement than telling you you can still play your music in your yard- but you can’t play it so loud at 3am.
lol. No hate from me popsy- and I appreciate you looking out for famousones interests in his stead. I hope he’s back soon. I like the kid. He’s smart, he loves his country, and his heart is usually in the right place. I’ve been hard on him lately- but it’s not because I disagree with his views- it’s because I want him to be able to make the leap to the next level he’s capable of in expressing them. We need his politics in this country- and he represents the views of many Americans.
Exactly. We need to remind our leaders who they are suppose to be working for. We , as a nation, need to relearn how to debate with respect and not go insane if someone has a differing viewpoint. We should be able to disagree without becoming enemies.
Spot on all the way in my view. It’s alright for people to have biases and agendas and to have their own morality. It’s a good thing. Presenting these things as what they are, being self aware of them- is a bridge. People can’t debate facts versus feelings. People can’t debate on wether a tax bill is or isn’t “right” if both parties are not REALLY saying why they think so. Everyone just gets confused and off in the weeds because you think you’re talking about one thing- but when you break it down... there’s another issue behind it. Part of that is making sure that people can say how they feel even if it’s unpopular- without being railroaded.
Yeah. The mad down voter seems to really hate stated facts (opinions too) but never a rebuttal of the facts. Opinions are just opinions but I can't understand the modern hatred of simple facts. I don't really get into conspericy theories , it's just too hard to keep shit a secret, but I am starting to think that the Reds took hold of the colleges and brainwashed a lot of students .lol
I mean- it’s still a pretty simple place for some leaders too.
I think that some people- just prefer to view the world in terms of whatever best suits their self interest. That makes things pretty simple- what benefits a person or makes them feel satisfied- and anything else.
I rather believe in god I case he is real and there is a heaven.
And if there isn’t who does it hurt?
So I will wear a mask and be a “sheeple” because it’s better to be safe than sorry.
