If you are offended that someone who was an atheist and gay invented something you use every day you are by far the biggest moron.
I would be more offended if it turned out that he invited the computer but someone found out he was gay and an atheist so they took his invention and claimed it as their own. Just so a stright god loving man could be called the inventor.
And on the flip side. I dont believe anybody should get extra famous points just because they are gay. If they made a contribution to society and altered the course of history (like alan turing did) then awesome they should celebrated. So what if hes gay. Yeah its his story and its worth being told. But he didnt change history because hes gay. He changed history because hes a fucking genius and sought to end the war.
Yeah but up until that moment there was nothing really popular about him, and if you get a random group of people and you ask they would know Jobs and Gates, but the majority wouldn't know Turing. It should be a name as well known as Edison or Einstein (or otger people from the past thatt most people would know) but sadly, is not.
It happens man edison turned out to be a huge dick cheese who just stole off peoples ideas and pattoned them. Like Nikola tesla was one of the most influental people in the way of electricity and he is hardley known because of edison.
Exactly my point. Still more people know about him (Edison) and has a museum. And most people have never hears of Turing. Now Tesla I'm not sure why is not as well known as Edison. My guess is because he was working towards electricity to be free?
I mean being a gay atheist did not help him invent this like being a christian didnt help christian inventors and so forth. Its cool and all but i dont see the point.
The way Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed Alan Turing in the movie "the immitation game" it's was awesome....the problems Alan had to face due to his sexuality even think he saved thousands of lives and helped stop the war....
Indeed, although it should be noted that the ending may not be *entirely* accurate. I'm not saying it isn't for certain, just that there's doubt. Can't really explain more without spoilers. It's a good movie either way, and worth watching
Honestly it's dudeman saying it in Ex Machina. Such a good movie and it stuck with me. The Imitation game is obviously right netxt to it.. but... dude. Ex Machina when you see that shit in practice.
Remember that Scientist who landed a satellite on a moving comet..but had to apologise bcz he wore a Tee shirt which was full of voluptuous ladies..
Thing is the same thing.. but from the liberal side..
I’m also gay and an atheist. I don’t think him being those things should define him. He needs to be remembered for his work and contributions. I, personally, believe equality is all about loving people for who they are, and forcing people’s achievements to be synonymous with their personal identity is only dividing us more in that sense.
True. But I think the issue with Turing is that in his time being gay was kind of abomination and he is not as well known as he should be. Maybe because of his sexual orientation he has not be praised in history as other people.
That’s true! He’s a legendary man whose name has not been credited enough in history. Maybe you’ve convinced me to see this in a different light now. :) Thank you!
I would be more offended if it turned out that he invited the computer but someone found out he was gay and an atheist so they took his invention and claimed it as their own. Just so a stright god loving man could be called the inventor.
Then you sir.. are the problem..
Thing is the same thing.. but from the liberal side..
You like programming and computational theory? Thank Alan Turing.
Thank this racist antisemite!
