I'm 18, have graduated high school, and I have no idea how to do my taxes. I'm only barely aware of what they are.
But worry not: Negative 'b' plus or minus the square root of 'b' squared' minus four times 'a' times 'c' all divided by 2 times 'a'.
This is a video rap ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xe6nLVXEC0 ) on how useless the education system is for educating people to live in society. The creator actually supports school contrary to the title or general theme. He just wanted to get the point that school doesn't really provide children with the education they need to function in society. I fucking love learning. I find my absolutely useless ability to explain evolution, the big bang, mathematic concepts, and a host of other things as anyone who knows me on this website could vouch for fucking amazing. I enjoy learning things,. But very few people actually care enough to learn what they're being forced to much less what they need to but aren't being told to.
Even when I took a finance class in high school, despite being taught about investing, housing, money managing, and briefly how to use credit cards, somehow taxes, 401k, and credit uses weren't in the program.
Because the instructions to do taxes are on the tax form, and the rest is basic math. Unless you have a complex financial situation, you submit a 1040 or 1040ez (both have the income limits printed on them.) There are phone numbers and now websites as well with the information, and tax software like turbo tax is widely used and anyone who can use a computer can use it. If you have things like cash gifts or contest winnings, stock pay outs etc. those are required by law to send you tax documents. Then you... follow the instructions on the form. If you have a complex tax situation, you should hire an accountant. That is what they call the school where you learn taxes. “Accounting.” It’s 4+ years on its own. I somehow doubt most people would want high school to last until 22 so they could learn accounting. If you don’t want to be an accountant- follow the directions on the form or buy turbo tax. 2018. Woot.
I still explain how credit works with people. Like... shit... I took 3 periods off in HS, basically going half a day my senior year. If they had offered something like personal finance my mom would have forced me into it.
@guest_ better they teach turbotax rather waste everyone's time going over microsoft word again. At this point microsoft word is basically like origin language... yet somehow it's still a part of the curriculum of so many computer science classes.
Honestly, it's not a bad idea, I bet the accuracy of the taxes would increase revenue and reduce the cost of oversight.
They are in health class.
I have been certified 4 times so far.
Once in Jr high
Once in high school
Once in college
All due to health classes
And once for my sub teaching.
I have to do it again soon.

mrscollector, I don't mean to seem like a stalker but I've been on FS for roughly three years and if I recall, you have children, correct?
So if she started choking and stopped breathing, you'd do everything in your power to unobstruct her airways? Reason I'm asking is many users who say CPR is dangerous and could cause potential damage, I think CPR is a last resort type rescue, when you have no other options.
You don't do cpr to unblock an airway you do the Heimlich maneuver even if they pass out. Their airway must be cleared before moving on to cpr as their system starting back up helps nothing if they can't breath.
Also if you aren't risking breaking bones in cpr you aren't pressing hard enough.
Cpr is my a last resort rescue. If someone is down is in need of resuscitation cpr is to be administered immediately as wasting time can lead to brain damage or death
If you are referring to mouth to mouth that has been taking out for some time now.
But making sure their air ways are not blocked when chocking is standard.
I actually had to perform the Heimlich on myself once. Where you use the back of a chair to hit yourself in the stomach to pop out what for me was a large bit of chicken. I laughed while eating it was all my husband's fault. Lol he bent in front of me to pick up something and split his pants. Lol
Luckily for me I remembered learning it in school.
As for CPR it gave my Dad extra couple of months to his life. So I am for CPR. Without it I would have been to late to say goodbye.

That's amazing. You never expect to use it till you actually have to. I'm lucky enough to never have had that experience of using CPR though I doubt I'd remember how since it's been years. Thank you for sharing that experience, I love reading about other people's experiences.
The are mandatory in The Netherlands. I got my first CPR training in elementary and then once more in highschool.
The problem is that you have to keep up with it and any improvements that have been made to the technique in the 10 years since I had my course I'm obviously unfamiliar with.
And the truth is how many ppl will actually keep up with refreshing their course or even fully remember the original one after 10/15 yrs?
.
It's a good idea, but I wonder how practical it really is.
I went to school on the west coast of the USA and was taught this in high school and middle school, with very basic stuff taught in elementary school. YMCA, scouts, redcross, JROTC, ROTC, and many other groups nation wide teach low or no cost CPR and first aid. If you “don’t have time for that” how would you have time to learn in school since they’d have to add it to your existing lessons? If you just can’t be bothered or don’t want to- why should the school or tax payers have to handle the burden of something you only care enough about to whine but not go take a free class for an hour or two a weekend? If you don’t want to learn enough to give up your time, how would you learn in school since you’re still giving up your time? If you don’t have a local club- start one. Talk to doctors, EMTS, the school, parents- someday you’ll be an adult. For many of you next year or so. Do you magically go from being afraid and confused to be responsible and make decisions to knowing how while...
... you sleep on your last night of 17? No. It’s a process. So many manlets and womanlings are scared, lost, overwhelmed when they hit the world- because they keep thinking about being an adult and what that means- and that it’s just something that happens. So they slog through adolescence relying on others to tell them what to do and provide them answers and tools- then they hit the magic number and can’t finction when they are the one in charge of life and people want answers from them. Start young. Start figuring out how to get what you want or shape the things you don’t like about the world. Figure out how to use resources like the internet and how to handle your business. No one will tell you what you need to do what you want. There’s no instruction manual for life. You learn what you need as you go and succeed, or you don’t and you fail. Help yourself succeed and don’t rely on others to do it for you. Get your own answers.
They are; it's called health class. Anyway... it needs a little more oversight. I skipped my CPR training because I had a basketball game. I'm certified to preform CPR... I have the little card and everything. <_<
I also hate how they depict CPR on tv. Just.... no. That's not how any of this works.
A interesting study for anyone interested.
In Australia, they did a study about the survival rate or cardiac arrests in different areas. The areas were schools, homes, workplace, airports, hospitals and a few social areas including the MCG.
The study showed you have the highest rate of survival at the MCG as all staff members are trained in first aid and each seating section has a defibrillator. The lowest area for survival was the home. Hospitals was 5th highest as the cardiac arrest pathways in most public hospitals is really shit and wastes too much time on less important things.
Unpopular fact: CPR is almost completely useless. It has been shown to have very little if any effect outside of possibly breaking ribs, causing pain, and bruising.

tell that to the 92,000 people in the usa that are still alive due to cpr being used in just one year
As I understand it CPR only very very rarely will cause the heart to start beating again like on TV. It does keep things functioning until an AED can be used to jumpstart the system again.
As for scat, CPR can't make the heart the start functioning simply because that's not how biology works. The heart is a complicated four chamber system that requires precise timing for each and every chamber that can't be replicated with a simple "pump" of your hands on the chest. It can't keep anything functioning.
Everyone is right. Sorta. CPR can increase the odds of survival for certain conditions and certain people when certain parameters are met. If performed outside these variables it is at best worthless and at worst can make things worse or even kill a person. Even when done by an expert under ideal conditions CPR can cause additional injuries or death. Recent studies don’t show CPR on the whole to be worthless. They can best be summed up as showing it is not as effective as many think. CPR should ideally be administered as close to the event as possible, and within no more than 10 minutes. CPR can’t cure chronic underlying conditions that often lead to the need to use CPR, and “freak accidents” where CPR could be effective often cause other severe injuries that lessen overall survival chances. The take away is that CPR can be effective but we should probably do more studies into the factors and conditions which make it most effective and target it to those cases. In the end....
Car can be painful and uncomfortable, and carries its own risks. For an extreme example, performing CPR on someone shot through the heart, lungs, stomach, and liver or dying of poison would likely be innegfective and if you are “going to die anyway”it could be considered cruel and excessive. However that’s a personal choice. If there is ANY chance it could save your life you have the right to opt in or out, just like chemotherapy with low success odds. It will be unpleasant and it might not work, so make your wishes known to friends, family, and in legal documents and decide for yourself. But basically tl:dr CPR isn’t total crap. It can save lives if all the circumstances line up. It just isn’t a magic bullet that can work for any injury or that has even a 50% chance to work. Most people wagering against death will take any little chance they can get, but real life isn’t tv and CPR isn’t as effective as on tv.
But worry not: Negative 'b' plus or minus the square root of 'b' squared' minus four times 'a' times 'c' all divided by 2 times 'a'.
