I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind women having to take their husband's last name in the first place! I mean, why was there no option of doing the opposite? At least now you have the option of not doing it as a woman. Women's liberation. BTW, I've been with the same woman for almost 20 years, and we're not married, and if we would get married, my wife would definitely not take my last name.
I find it interesting that folks are so confused by a woman not changing her last name (to his), but the suggestion that a man change his last name (to hers) is not even on the table.
I have a cousin (guy). Really good guy. But for some reason he is adamant that women should always take the man's name. When I asked why it was pretty much just some sort of "the guy is survived through his children" perspective.
.
I meant to ask him what would happen if you only have female children
.
Oddly enough I discovered awhile ago that his wife still uses her maiden name on facebook
.
People have odd little hang-ups, but whatever floats your boat I guess lol
It's a very religious and traditional family. I was seen as this big rebel because I have tattoos and liberal politics. Her parents, needless to say, do not care for me.
Remember when girls used to be super excited to take their husband's last name but then toxic 2014 tumblr culture seeped into the rest of the internet and now single women think it's funny to say they don't want to take the name.
That’s cute, but women started not changing their identity before 2014 and some tumbler bull. Its actually a big hassle to change your name and if you’re a professional that has built a career with your name/identity changing it is sort of a big deal. There’s like reasons.
Interestingly a friend of mine is Muslim and at when I first met him I didn't realize someone he was talking about was his wife at first because she had a different last name. I was curious so I asked him about it (since they are somewhat traditional) and he said the women don't take the mens' last names - only the children do.
.
Granted I never really thought to verify if he was telling the truth or not - I just assumed he would know better than I would.
