He may have been unconscious, in shock, disassociated, or any number of things. Maybe he even felt perfectly fine at the time. Regardless, people like pictures. I once had a patient who wanted a picture of his own kidneys from an operation. I know a guy who keeps a photo of his recently blown off leg as a screensaver.

Reconstructive surgery is just puting things back in a workable order. In a way they looks most human as possible. But look at him he went beyond that. He has had easily more than just reconstructive.
And if it wasn’t for so many people having elective surgery so many new ways would not be found to fix people like him.
I know it’s hard to look but if you look at the before picture the man doesn’t even have anything left to make a nose. Yet look at the after picture his whole face looks like he just lost an eye and got a scratch.
You need to look up the in between pictures.
