I think the point is that toxic masculinity is a form of masculinity exhibited by some men that is unhealthy, and if this exists there must be a mirror of it in femininity because otherwise it would mean that women are one homogeneous, perfectly healthy group, an idea that can't be defended unless reddit feminists admit they do not advocate for equality.
That's just how I understand this.
Just my opinion but- Toxic femininity is seen in women who distance themselves from women as a group because they hold the same beliefs as toxic men.
It's the women who explain their inability to complete a task typically considered masculine purely on the fact they're a woman.
Also women who put other women down in a way that men who did the same would be called out on.
Whilst individuals should be aware of their own behaviour it should be noted that just like toxic masculinity this is often because we have been socialised to believe women are lesser than men in some way.
Toxic Femininity to me would be women using the stereotypes of women in toxic ways. Men NEED to provide for women, women MUST be protected, hitting/abusing men but its ok because im a woman kinda stuff. Also probably women that participate in gossip culture and exclusionary social behaviors.
I'm going to disagree so insanely strongly about the premise that toxic feminity is when women behave "in a way that men did." Men are not toxic by nature - women trying to strip them of their masculinity are
I don't think that's what they meant, if you take the whole statement, "women who put other women down in a way that men who did the same would be called out on" just means that things that aren't considered right for men aren't right for women either. They're not saying that men are inherently toxic, just calling out on their bs people of both genders who put women down.
(and the very same can be said of people who put men down).
