Why is everybody saying 5+4=9 is an option?
from 6 to 5 leaves you 1 match. You need 2 matches to turn a 4 into a 9.
A. that would result in too many turns
B. where would you get the second match to make 9?
I think only 8-4=4 and 0+4=4 are correct.
That is a 9 but an incomplete 9, it would be inconsistent with the previous 6. The vast majority of digital 9's is written with a lower line. It feels a bit like cheating to consider that a 9.
How would it be inconsistent with the six? You never write a six without a curve on top regardless of if it is typed but you can write a nine without a curve.
8 - 4 = 4
5 + 4 = 9
Both can be made by moving a single match.
